Hello Everyone!
I have set up this blog to track the progress of Telik Dudley as he makes his way towards being a proficient reader and thriving student through participation in the amazing cognitive skills training program Learning RX. It will be a long process, but with his hard-working and positive attitude and the support of those around him, we are confident that he can reach his goals and succeed beyond what he ever dreamed possible. I plan to make periodic posts about Telik's progress at Learning RX including updates from his trainer and from Telik himself about how he is feeling about the whole experience so you can really get a first-hand look at his progress.
So, first off...Congratulations and THANK YOU to everyone who has helped make this dream become a reality. The fundraising necessary to make this happen was no light task and so many of you stepped up to the plate and chose to take part in helping to change this boy's life. You are all AMAZING, and your contributions are simply invaluable. And great news, they paid off!
Telik has now been attending Learning RX for three weeks now and so far he is really enjoying it and getting a lot out of it. He attends 4 days a week for 75 minutes, for a total of 5 hours a week, meeting with a personal trainer who pushes him to work on the areas he needs to improve upon the most. The brain exercises he does are both challenging and fun and are getting him to use his brain in ways he has never had to before. Some of the things come easier to him (visual and auditory processing) while some of the exercises are much more of a challenge (short-term and working memory). According to Telik's amazing "personal brain trainer", Liz, he is working hard and having fun, but definitely struggles at times with the exercises and is beginning to see this isn't all fun and games but a serious endeavor that will be a constant challenge and uphill battle.
It will be a while before we can start to see any real tangible results, but for now we can safely say that Telik is off on the right foot and has hit the ground running. There are sure to be plenty of bumps along the way and plenty of slips and stumbles as he makes his way to the top of the mountain, but the journey has begun and this train is bound for glory. Thank you all again for your incredible support and for taking such a rooted interest in Telik's future. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he makes his journey toward success!
